Race To The Finish Line

Shearites took to the track on a cold and dreary Monday evening to pit their track and field skills against one another. The mild drizzle did not seem to dampen their moods one bit. The runners were proudly showing off their toned legs as they started their warm-up while waiting for the event to start. The atmosphere was tense. Which Block will take the Track and Field Crown this year? This was the question on every Shearites' mind.

The first event was the highly anticipated 4x100m Girls Relay.

Blk A: Natalie, Cheryl, Michelle, Trendy
Blk B: Qian Wei, Rui Qi, Trisha, Bei Han
Blk C: Huishan, Wei Han, Chui Ting, Hilda
Blk D: Cassandra, Si Lei, Hui Hong, Phaykey
Blk E: Elyssa, Xiao Dan, Ke Er, Yifeng

Winner : Blk E

Exciting new talent Elyssa took us by storm giving Blk E an unsurmountable lead and star Alumni Yifeng duly completed the relay with ease as Blk E completed the race with a gap of approximately 10 seconds. Although Blk B and Blk D put a up a strong fight with Bei Han and another emerging talent Phaykey, they will never able to close the lead on Blk E! Truly a tantalizing start to the Track and Field event.

Next up, the hunk running the 4x100m relay took to the tracks. All eyes were on Blk B who were highly touted to win this event.

Blk A: Cheng Liang, Joe, Geoffrey, Daniel
Blk B: Eng Chai, Altaff, Su Kee, Leo
Blk C: Yao Jie, Xiang Liang, Horace, Zhong Ren
Blk D: Yi Le, Vincent, Hong Yi, Yeow Lin
Blk E: Taylor, Vish, Pengfei, Wei Cong

Winner: Blk B

As expected Blk B won this event but it was the speed of 2nd Runner Altaff which truly had the crowd mesmerized. Although Blk E was in the lead initally after an lung-bursting run by our California import Taylor, Altaff cut his lead short with a magical run. From then on, our ever suave Sukee and fleet-flooted Leo both ensured that all the other Blocks were left smelling their rubber. Even the presence of former acclaimed Track and Field Captain Pengfei from Blk E, Former IVP Track Star Peh Weicong from Blk E was not was not enough to regain the lead. Blk D finished 2nd with a spirited run from Yeow Lin.

Next up, the 4x400m Girls Relay.

Blk A: Denise, Krystal, Kar Xieu, Jing Yi
Blk B: Qian Hui, Nora, Bee, Desmy
Blk C: Margaret, Ying Ying, Soh Min, Wan Qi
Blk D: Hui Jia, Su Min, Jasmine, Phaykey
Blk E: Si Jia, Pei Yi, Sonia, Jia Ni

Winner: Blk B

Blk B took this event easily with Desmy obtaining a unassailable lead despite being the last runner . There were a few glimpses of brilliance from the other blocks however they were not able to overcome the fightback from the Beekers. Blk E was in the lead for the first 2 legs with Si Jia and Pei Yi giving them the lead but in the midst of the race allowed the other Blocks to take the lead. Nevertheless, good effort from all the girls for bravely taking to the tracks!

The guys once again took to the tracks ready to flex their leg muscles for the 4x400m Guys Relay and to see who could emerge victorious.

Blk A: Yong Sheng, Caleb, Alden, Zip
Blk B: Eng Chai, Jenn, Greg, Justin
Blk C: Tam, Sam, Keang, Matthew
Blk D: Karry, Jckie, Jun Han, Jason
Blk E: Harsh, Taylor, Jayanta, Yong Hui

Winner: Blk E

Blk E was off to a great start with Harsh running a tremendous first 200m. But by the end of the first round Blk B had taken the lead. It was a really close fight till the 3d and 4th rounds when Blk E killed off the challenge from the other blocks. Jayanta and Yong Hui from Blk E both acclaimed runners and IVP stars really showed unsurpassed talent and blazed through the tracks in blistering timings.

The last event of the night was the Medley which consisted of girls and guys running 100m, 200m and 400m track events in a relay style. It ensured that an eventful Track and Field Event had a worthy finish.

Blk A: Natalie, Dominic, Cheryl, Yong Shen
Blk B: Bei Han, Leo, Tricia, Altaff
Blk C: Xinning, Ben, Chamel, Wen Jun
Blk D: Hui Jia, Yeow Lin, Hui Hong, Vincent
Blk E: Yifeng, Vish, Elyssa, Yong Hui

This event was Blk E's from the start and even the presence of Track prodigy Altaff did little to dampen the mood of the Eekers. They started off fabulous with Alumni Yfeng, maintained the lead with the up and coming star of Sheares Hall Elyssa and ended off with our hero of the night Yong Hui! It was really the stuff magic was made of and the Eeekers rejoiced with much jubilation. Blk C started off well with the petite Xinning making an impact but really the event had a foregone conclusion from the beginning.

After a clearly palpitating event, Blk B and Blk E took home the Gold together in a joint win. The runners had shown much grit and they were constantly cheered on by the many Shearites who had come down to support the event. The amount of talent present in Sheares Hall is clearly evident. Special thanks have to be mentioned to our lovely Amelia Sheares Chua for making this event run smoothly. Till next year then Shearites when I will see you taking up the challenge and blazing through these tracks again!

Eeker Kumar :)
