For all Shearites young and old, here is an introduction to Sheares Hall's sporting event of the year, the Inter Block Games.
WHAT
IBG. You've heard of this term ever since you stepped into Sheares. It is one of the most anticipated events in the Sheares Hall calender. What exactly is IBG? Simple, do a search on Google, and surprisingly the first thing you see has absolutely nothing to do with Sheares.
So what is IBG? It is a time whereby Shearites come together to participate in a series of real sports games(not those childish orientation games). Pitting their skills against one another for 2 weeks in a sports showdown between blocks.
WHO
All who have had orange blood flowing through their veins before. In other words, all freshly inducted Shearites, existing Shearites and even Shearites who have grown a little mouldy are allowed to take part in this sports fest.
WHEN
Every night for 2 weeks starting tonight, 11th of August till 25th of August. 2 weeks of pure adrenaline awaits...
WHERE
Most court games will be located in Sheares Hall itself, like Badminton, Table Tennis, Floorball and Sepak Takraw. Other sports such as Netball and Volleyball will be played at the Multi-Purpose Sports Court just down the road next to some blue hall. The rest of the sports will be played at the Sports and Recreation Centre (SRC). This is a very good opportunity for potential sportsmen to orientate yourself to the training grounds of SRC as you will be spending plenty of time in that area during IHG trainings.
HOW
Compete with an open mind and an open heart. Fight with determination, contend like a gentlemen. Win honourably. Lose graciously.
WHY
Nothing binds a group of people together better than sports. Cherish this time within your blocks, build friendships, build everlasting bonds. Enjoy the pressure of everyone's eyes on you as you bat in the final inning at softball. Feel the glory of scoring the winning 3-pointer during the basketball finals. Ultimately, soak up the Sheares sporting experience.
